Harriet Nelson

Coaching Director, GlaxoSmithKline and Executive Coach, HN Coaching Ltd

I have always been interested in people – who they are, what they do and why they do it. I am naturally open and am especially curious about cultures different from my own. For me, coaching offers the best combination of my skills and interests in a way that is constructive and useful for others.

I believe we all have potential, and that coaching is a key enabler to activate this, irrespective of our role or the context for our work. Coaching enables personal insight, learning, clarity and authenticity and is an opportunity to pause before consciously re-engaging to reach our desired goals. Outcomes can include a clearer way forward, increased self- awareness and learning, and clarity on deeper purpose.

I am constantly learning and my current focus is understanding the interplay between the individual and the systems they come from. Separately, I am studying how to work more somatically to enable better awareness of the whole self and as a lifelong animal lover, I am interested in animal facilitated learning and how horses may be part of the coaching process.

I believe all good relationships are based on trust and the coaching relationship is no exception. You will get a trusted partner, to join you as you learn. I will be interested in you, your scenario and the outcome you want to achieve. My style is calm, spacious and informal, and our conversations will be a mixture of support and challenge, in service of you reaching the goals you identify. We shall establish how you want to work together and our conversations will be a safe, confidential and creative space to enable reflection, insight and progress.

I am open to work with whatever you bring, but so far, most individuals have chosen to work with me to develop their leadership, discover how they can be at their best, find meaning in their careers or as they successfully transition into a new organisation or a significantly different new role.

Since 2015, I have worked as an individual, group and sponsor coach on a global leadership programme designed to help women progress, and change the system they are in, so I am familiar with the themes that emerge for women – and those around them – as they intend to develop in this way. I wish to continue to build my experience beyond the corporate world and I would welcome adding further breadth to my experience in this way.
